Walking Disaster (Beautiful, #2)

Walking Disaster (Beautiful, #2) - Jamie McGuire See more reviews like this at: Reading Books Like a BossMy Rating: Travis, Travis, Travis. I don't know how to quit you. Being that Travis Maddox is one of my favorite book boyfriends, I couldn't wait for this to get my grubby little hands on this one. Walking Disaster is Travis's side of Beautiful Disaster.Walking Disaster began with a huge helping of feelings. As Travis's mom lay dying, she tells poor little Travis to find "the one", fight for her, not give up, and be strong. As you know from Beautiful Disaster, he doesn't exactly do that at first. He's quite the "love 'em and leave 'em type" until Abby Abernathy strolls into his life. One thing I didn't love about Beautiful Disaster is Travis's nickname for Abby, "Pigeon". I thought it was such a stupid pet name, and it seemed to come out of nowhere. Well finally, this mysterious term of endearment is explained. I don't know if I buy the explanation, but I'll take it."I decided a long time ago I would feed on the vultures until a dove came along. A pigeon. The kind of soul that didn't impede on anyone; just walked around worrying about its own business, trying to get through life without pulling everyone else down with its own needs and selfish habits."I loved Travis even more in Walking Disaster. My heart broke along with him as Abby ripped it into shreds. One thing that did surprise was how quickly Travis fell for Abby. I think Shepley knew how Travis felt before Travis did, which was probably why Shepley was a nervous Nellie when it came to losing America. Being in a relationship was unchartered territory for Mr. Maddox. The poor guy didn't know what to do with what he was feeling."I wanted to tell her. Jesus, did I ever want to mouth the words, but I could barely admit it to myself, much less her. Deep down I knew I was a piece of shit, and she deserved better...There was something about her I needed in my life, and even though I wasn't sure what it was, I couldn't give into my bad habits and fuck it up."Having read Beautiful Disaster multiple times, I know the story well. Perhaps, that's why I didn't fall head over heels in love with this book. There were few things revealed that the reader didn't already know. In Beautiful Disaster, Travis was basically an open book. His reactions, facial expressions, and his words were all a dead giveaway of what was going on in his mind. So, finding out what Travis was thinking wasn't super surprising (well, most of it). I was hoping for some new scenes with Abby, Shepley, and America. While there was some new content, I wanted some expanded scenes with some new dialogue (I know, I'm such a greedy reader). One thing I can say for damn sure is that Abby got on my last nerve, even more so in Walking Disatser than in Beautiful Disaster. Knowing exactly how Travis felt towards her (and when he began feeling that way) made me want to give Abby Abernathy swift roundhouse kick to the face. Ugh! Abby's modus operandi seemed to be, "When life gets tough, leave." Hello, does the morning after and post-Vegas scenes ring a bell?"I can't win with you. I can't win with you! You say you're done...I'm fucking miserable over here! I had to break my phone into a million pieces to keep from calling you every minute of the damn day--I've had to play it off like everything is just fine at school so you can be happy...and you're fucking mad at me?"Preach it, Travis! *finger snaps*If anything, read the book for the epilogue. That put a HUGE smile on my face. It was completely unexpected and shocking. At first I didn't know what was going on, talk about coming out of left field. I am sad to say goodbye to Travis and Abby, but hopefully we'll get a glimpse into their lives when Jamie writes Trent's book.
